In 1996 pastors Gerald and Penny Hutton returned from a Vineyard conference in Australia and encouraged their small church in Karen, Nairobi, to join the movement. Since then, the movement has grown in East Africa, with the direct assistance of teams from Vineyards in South Africa, the United States and UK.

There are now a number of Vineyard churches in Nairobi and the area around it, two in Mombasa and another on the South Coast. There are clusters of churches in the Kisumu, Kitale, Muranga and Kisii areas, and churches in Nakuru, Kapsabet, Eldoret, Kakamega, Nanyuki and Bissil.

Each Vineyard church is autonomous, yet a member by relationship of the Association of Vineyard Churches. The character of each is different, too, serving the particular community in which its members live and serve.

Dagoretti Corner Vineyard started meeting behind Caltex Petrol Station in February 2003 under the leadership of Noah & Mary Gitau. Our purpose is to worship God in contemporary and in intimacy. Our desire is to connect to Him and to want to see Him in our meetings.

KAREN VINEYARD CHURCH

The KVC office also serves as the administrative office for the Association of Vineyard Churches of east Africa. KVC is popular with local Kenyans as well as expatriates, missionaries, pilots, United Nations professionals and diplomats.
